WeaveMetric Studio showing a counted woven fabric: every warp and weft thread numbered on the photo, with 46 EPI and 80 PPI The yarn count and GSM calculator in WeaveMetric Studio: 41.85 Ne for warp and weft from 46 EPI, 80 PPI and 70 GSM, with known counts checked against the GSM
Thread density

EPI and PPI you can check

Warp ends and weft picks per inch from one photo, with every counted thread marked.

Counts warp (ends per inch) and weft (picks per inch) from one photo, in seconds.
Marks and numbers every counted thread, so anyone can check the result.
Corrects rotation and skew automatically, with manual correction when you want it.
Flags threads it is unsure about, so you know where to look.
Polyester satin

Counts the fabric a pick glass can't

Polyester satin hides its interlacings under long, glossy floats of dense filament yarn, so manual counting is slow and unreliable. A dedicated satin method reads the weave itself, then counts and marks every end and pick.

Reads the weave
Finds the floats and ends per repeat, with a weave diagram you can check.

Counting methods

One method for most fabrics

The Standard method handles most woven fabrics on its own, and satin has a dedicated method. For the occasional special case, such as bold colour stripes or slubby yarns, extra methods are a tap away in the app.

Standard

DEFAULT

Most woven fabrics: plain, twill, shirting, suiting, denim and more.

Satin

Satin and sateen weaves, including polyester satin.

GSM

GSM from any cut piece

No perfectly cut circle needed. The app measures the exact area of a piece of any shape, so it reduces, and often removes, the need for a GSM cutter. You still weigh the piece on your balance.

01Cut a piece of fabric and lay it flat on a plain sheet under your phone.
02Take a photo. The app measures its area with your phone's calibration and draws the measured outline.
03Enter the weight from your weighing balance and get the GSM.

Already use a GSM cutter? Enter the weight and get the GSM directly.

Yarn count

Yarn count calculator

Turns thread density and GSM into yarn count, or checks a declared count.

Estimate the average yarn count from EPI, PPI and GSM.
Verify a known warp and weft count against the GSM, within a tolerance you set.
Units: cotton count (Ne), linen count (lea), worsted count, metric count (Nm), tex and denier; single to 3-ply.
Today it applies when warp and weft use the same yarn, or yarns of the same material.
Tools

Check, adjust and record

Window

Count only inside an area you choose.

Span count

Count the threads between two points you pick.

Thread gaps

Tap thread centres to measure spacing yourself.

Satin reading

Floats and ends per repeat, with a weave diagram.

Measure

Measure distances on the fabric.

Save

Keep the marked-up photo as a record on your phone.

Calibration

One-time set-up, true real-world scale

A guided calibration with our printed chessboard sheet corrects your camera's lens distortion and learns how its focus relates to distance, so every count and every GSM area uses true real-world scale. Calibration files for popular phones will also be available in the app.
